Marina Kapes, LMHC
Therapist
she/her/hers
Marina is a licensed mental health counselor who earned her master's degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling at Lewis & Clark University. Prior to that, she completed half of a master's program in Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University before the clinical electives she attended there convinced her to go become a therapist. This educational background has equipped her to approach potentially vulnerable topics with openness and compassionate curiosity.
Having earned a certificate in eating disorder treatment during graduate school, Marina went on to work at the residential level of care for several years before joining Looking Glass Counseling. In addition to her passion for body image and eating concerns, her clinical interests include issues involving sexuality, interpersonal difficulties, relational trauma, couples/family therapy and ADHD. Across a variety of settings, she has experience working with clients struggling with OCD, personality disorders, anxiety, depression and complex trauma. She utilizes skills-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and integrates elements of existential and relational-cultural therapy modalities into sessions.
Marina believes that the client-therapist relationship itself is ultimately the most profound factor in generating positive impact through talk therapy, and that mental health challenges are best understood within a client's relational and societal context. She aims to bring warmth and humor into sessions, and establishes a sense of safety that invites clients to embrace the dialectic that everyone is doing their best, and everyone can be doing better, simultaneously.
